Connect Workday to Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot
Workday HCM holds workers, positions, supervisory organizations, compensation, recruiting, time off and talent, and every business process and report runs inside configurable security groups. This guide covers Workday HCM.
Nexatron's hosted MCP server is listed in Claude's connector directory. ChatGPT and Microsoft 365 Copilot add the same server as a custom MCP connector. Connect Workday to your Nexatron workspace once, then ask from whichever assistant you use.
What you can ask
- What is headcount by supervisory organization and worker type as of the end of last month?
- How did voluntary attrition among top-level management compare with the rest of the company this year?
- How many filled and open positions does each cost center have against its approved headcount?
- What was median time to fill for job requisitions closed this half, by job family?
- Which supervisory organizations have the most workers on leave of absence right now?
- How many internal transfers moved workers between supervisory organizations last quarter?
Questions read Worker, Supervisory Organization, Position, Job Requisition, Time Off and Leave, and Cost Center.
Prerequisites
- A Nexatron workspace admin.
- A Workday tenant, and a Workday administrator who can register an API client (Authorization Code grant).
- A Workday account for each person who asks questions.
Admin setup
Nexatron connects to Workday per person over its REST API, with OAuth 2.0 authorization code through an API client registered in your tenant.
- In Workday, register an API client with the Authorization Code grant, and note its client ID and secret. Use a least-privilege security profile.
- In Nexatron, go to Knowledge ▸ Sources ▸ New connection and choose Workday. Enter the tenant's service host (for example
wd5-impl-services1.workday.com), the tenant alias, and the client ID and secret, and save. - Choose who can use the connection.
How each person signs in
Each person connects their own Workday account from the connection's page or under Knowledge ▸ Sources ▸ Your sign-ins, so calls run as the signed-in worker.
First question to try
After you add Nexatron in Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot, ask:
What is headcount by supervisory organization and worker type as of the end of last month?
The answer shows the definition it used and the source behind it.
Permissions and masking
Workday security groups, including role-based groups on supervisory organizations and domain security policies, decide which workers, fields and reports an answer can include. A manager sees their own organizations only, as in the Workday UI.
Nexatron's own rules under Settings ▸ Workspace ▸ Access (Access) apply on top and never widen what Workday allows.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause and fix |
|---|---|
| Nexatron asks you to connect first | You have not connected your Workday account under Your sign-ins. |
| Workers you expect are missing | Your Workday security groups do not cover those supervisory organizations or fields. |
