Insights and Monitors

Insights shows what your monitors found, newest first. A monitor re-runs one approved definition every 15 minutes, under one person's access, and posts an insight when it crosses a line. Insights is shown to admins, analysts and executives. Its two tabs are Feed and Monitors.

Read an insight

Each insight card leads with the metric's value against its threshold, and says which monitor found it (Detected by). Filter by All, High, Medium or Resolved. Select Investigate to open it.

On the insight's page, How this was detected says:

  • How much it moved: for example, down 12.0% from the previous value to the current one, against the previous period.
  • Which segment drove it: a breakdown by one of the metric's dimensions, such as region, with each segment's change and its share of the movement. Segments that moved the other way are marked.
  • The monitor, the definition it watched and its trust label.

Then:

  • Investigate (governed) opens Ask with the question filled in, so you can dig further.
  • Acknowledge says you have seen it; Resolve closes it.
  • Tune this monitor opens the monitor to change its rule.

Monitors

The Monitors tab lists every monitor, what it fires on, and its health: Running, Can't run, Last run failed, Paused, Not yet run or Cooling down. Run all now runs every monitor once.

Create a monitor

Select New monitor and answer four questions:

  1. What should I watch? Choose an approved definition, the period it is measured over, and optionally the dimension that explains its movements.
  2. What should I watch for? Crosses a threshold (for example, falls below a number), or Changes from the period before by a percentage.
  3. Whose numbers? Under Evaluate as, choose whose access the monitor runs with. The number it watches is the number that person would see; recipients with narrower access may see a different figure.
  4. Who hears about it? Name the monitor, choose how often it may repeat under Don't repeat within, and list who to email under Email these people when it fires. With nobody listed, it still records each trip.

Select Test this monitor to see the current value and whether it would fire now, then Create monitor.

On a monitor's page, Run now, Edit, Pause and Resume do what they say. Fire history lists each time it tripped. To stop a monitor firing without losing anything, pause it instead of deleting it.
